New This Week (26/27 July 2014)
Tea & Coffee:
Tea & coffee is served in the Hall after 9.00am Mass this Sunday and most Sundays. A great opportunity to come and meet other parishioners. Everyone is welcome.
Day For Life 27th July:
The day in the Church’s year dedicated to celebrating the dignity of life will this year call upon young people in particular to protect & cherish life from conception to natural death.
Our project to restore the church bells will cost approximately £56,000 of which the Diocese has asked that we raise 75%. In addition we need to fund £5,000 to refurbish the organ on completion of the work on the bells. After receipt of grants (including one to cover VAT) we anticipate the need to raise £35,000 over the next six months. Anyone wishing to make a donation may leave it in the collection or hand it to Fr. David. Special envelopes available at the back of church.
Men's Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast:
Men's Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast at St. Paul’s Shop, Woodlands Road at 8.15am next Saturday 2nd August. New members welcome. The meeting lasts about an hour with scripture, prayer for the local community, and a continental breakfast.
We will be collecting Food & Toiletries for the Food Bank at St. Cuthbert’s Blackpool & Cenacolo House Dodding Green, Kendal. The next collection of tins, dried food, toothpaste & toilet soap will be after every Mass over weekend of 2/3 August & will be donated to St. Cuthbert’s. Please be generous.
If there are young people in year 7 or above interested in preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation, please let Fr David know. The programme would begin around September time, and the intention is that Confirmation would be celebrated towards the end of the year.
Layton Hill Convent/St.Joseph’s College Reunion:
Not To Be Missed:
Friday 3 October concert by the Girls Choir from the Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool. Proceeds to be split between parish funds and Burkina Faso. Tickets will go on sale in August. Spread the word.
Please contact Fr. David if you would like to arrange a Baptism. Two preparation meetings are usually required. The practice of celebrating some Baptisms during a Sunday Mass is encouraged and the children being Baptised outside of Mass will be welcomed into the community at Mass on a previous Sunday with a short rite. We hope that all who request a Baptism for their children at St. Joseph’s will feel welcome and become valued members of our parish and of the Catholic Church.
We have a wide selection of cards for all occasions and we also have a small selection of rosary beads and other gifts for sale at the back of church.
The Wednesday Word is available from the back of church to help prepare for next Sunday’s readings.

Lytham St Annes Catenians congratulate St Peter's Church in Lytham on celebrating its 175 year anniversary. This iconic church has been the spiritual and social focus of generations of families, of clergy, and of religious orders and groups in its local area. Club Days, Rose Queens, Fetes etc have made for rich and lasting traditions. Many of the other long established churches and parishes in the wider region enjoy the same traditions and like St Peter's continue to do a marvellous job in the community. This year it is St Peter's turn to reach an historic milestone. To the present generation of parishioners...enjoy the celebrations."
Please will all Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist collect the new rota from the back of the church, or download an updated copy from here
. The new rota starts next week. Thank you for your faithfulness and cooperation in carrying out this special ministry.
Congratulations to members of our choir – past and present – which celebrates its Silver Jubilee around this time. We thank all those who are, or have been, involved in any way with the choir and the wonderful music they have provided for our parish liturgy. Ad multos annos!
Base Youth Team:
We are currently looking for new team leaders to join the Base Youth Group. It is a very informal, relaxed environment where the children from years 6 - 8 can catch up with their friends. Fortnightly meetings (Thurs 7 - 8:30pm) in term time at St Joseph’s Parish hall. We provide a variety of fun activities including a tuck shop. If you have the time and enthusiasm to join us please email to:
. Check out our website: http://www.st-josephsansdell.net/youth-club
Mass Time Change:
If you weren't alredy aware, the Mass for Tuesdays has moved from 7.00pm to 9.00am. This decision has been taken because we were left with only one weekday morning Mass after the link with St Peter’s. From 10th June there will be two: Tuesday and Friday.
Pictures from the last Parish walk can be seen here
Help is needed in the guest house from Sept 2014 – July 2015. Would suite someone wanting to improve their English skills or someone looking for a Gap Year experience. See details at the back of Church. www.hyning.org
If you or your dependants are admitted into hospital please ask the ward staff to inform the R.C. Chaplain, otherwise a visit cannot be guaranteed. These days, due to data protection legislation, we cannot guarantee that names of Catholics will be passed onto the Chaplain unless consent is given. The Chaplain and his team are always pleased to visit if they know you are there.
St Peter's Lytham 175th Anniversary:
In 1838 the first stone of St Peter's Church was laid and the Church was opened on 1st August 1839. During 2014 St Peter's will not only be marking their 175th Anniversary with a variety of fabulous events to bring the whole extended Parish family together in true Lancastrian style (there really will be something for everybody), but they will also be leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. St Peter's have published a special bulletin that is aimed to keep you all up to date with the planning and preparations for the celebrations, and also how you can get involved. You can find copy of that bulletin here
The Prime Minister, David Cameron, has recognised the work of the SVP with a ‘Big Society Award’. The hope would be that this award will help to attract more members for the SVP, more funding, and helps them to be taken more seriously when they speak on behalf of those living in poverty. It should allow them to be more effective in preaching the Good News, as St Francis says: “if necessary using words”
The recycling bins behind the church hall are always available for use if you want to avoid storing cardboard, paper, bottles & jars for the fortnightly collection. It’s all part of our LiveSimply project in association with CAFOD
